Iran attacked at least three commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and launched drones near Dubai International Airport, intensifying regional pressure amid US and Israeli airstrikes against the Iranian regime. A projectile struck and set fire to the Thai freighter Mayuree Naree off the coast of Oman, where 20 crew members were rescued by the Omani navy while three remained missing, while the Japanese-flagged container ship One Majesty suffered minor damage from another missile 25 nautical miles northwest of Ras al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates and continued sailing to a safe anchorage with the crew unharmed. Additionally, the Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Star Gwyneth was hit by a projectile that damaged its hull about 50 nautical miles northwest of Dubai, although its crew was unharmed. In another isolated incident, two Iranian drones struck near Dubai airport, leaving four people injured but without disrupting flights. The Iranian military command also warned that it would begin targeting banks and financial institutions in the Middle East, raising the risks for regional financial centers such as Dubai, while maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz —through which about 20% of the world's oil and gas supply circulates—has decreased rapidly since the conflict began on February 28, bringing the number of ships attacked since then to at least 14.
