A.P. Moller-Maersk announced the resumption of transit for its MECL service through the Suez Canal after completing two successful test voyages through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The return to the trans-Suez route, which links the Middle East, India and the U.S. East Coast, marks the first structural change to restore the original service pattern and provide more efficient transit times, shifting away from the previously extended Cape of Good Hope route. Maersk stated it will closely monitor the security situation in the region, with any future changes dependent on stability in the Red Sea, prioritizing the safety of crews, assets, and cargo, and retaining contingency plans that could revert transits if needed. The Cornelia Maersk will operate the first westbound trans-Suez voyage from Jebel Ali on January 15, 2026, and the Maersk Detroit already completed the first eastbound sail from North Charleston, marking the implementation of the new operational scheme.
