Ships Come Under Attack in Hormuz After Trump Extends Ceasefire – Datamar News | 22/04/26

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remained highly uncertain after U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally extended the ceasefire with Iran, in a context where the waterway remains largely blocked and no progress has been made in negotiations, as neither the United States nor Iran attended planned talks in Pakistan. At the same time, attacks were reported on at least three container ships, involving gunfire and rocket strikes that caused material damage —including to one vessel’s bridge— though no casualties were reported, while boardings and the detention of two vessels (MSC Francesca and Epaminodes) by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also took place under accusations of unauthorized operations and manipulation of navigation systems. Meanwhile, the United States maintains its naval blockade on Iranian maritime trade, which Tehran considers an act of war and a key reason for keeping the strait closed, a situation that has already triggered a global energy crisis, in a context of ongoing stalemate that is impacting markets, with oil prices falling below $100 per barrel but remaining highly volatile amid the lack of clear resolution signals.
