Suez route voyages recover; Drewry launches Red Sea Diversion Tracker – Drewry | 13/01/26

Maritime consultancy Drewry Shipping Consultants has launched a new tool called the Red Sea Diversion Tracker, which monitors weekly containership transits through the Suez Canal versus those diverted around the Cape of Good Hope. In the week ending 11 January, the number of container vessels transiting via Suez rose to 26 voyages —the highest in five weeks— including five 8,000+ TEU ships from major carriers— suggesting an emerging rebound of the traditional route, although overall transit levels remain below pre-crisis norms. Drewry expects major carriers to gradually increase Suez transits while watching factors such as the insurance market, freight rates, transit times and fuel consumption, and will publish updates to the tracker on a fortnightly basis to inform stakeholders on evolving trends.
