After a meeting with government authorities, the union of Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP) decided to end the strike that had nearly paralyzed port activity since the previous Thursday. Union president Álvaro Reinaldo announced that workers will return to their duties on Friday at 7:00 a.m. local time, after which a ten-day period will begin to negotiate their demands. Although the union accepted the government’s proposal, it will request that pressure be applied on the company TCP —80 % controlled by Katoen Natie and 20 % by the National Ports Administration— to address their claims. The conflict originated from the implementation of a new operating system introduced without prior consultation, which workers fear could increase pressure on working conditions. Link to Article
